Clemson Tigers vs Ohio State Buckeyes Tide What to Watch:
In order to get to the College Football Playoff final, two of the three unbeaten FBS institutions will compete in the Fiesta Bowl.
On Sunday, the Ohio State Buckeyes fell to No. 2, forcing them to play the No. 3 Clemson Tigers.
The two teams faced battle in the same venue in the playoff semifinal three years ago. On its path to a championship, Clemson prevailed in that game.
The Tigers started as the favorite over the Big Ten champion, even though they were the lesser seed.
There are several interesting individual clashes in the second-versus-third matchup.
The most intriguing games pit Ohio State's defense against Clemson's attack.
In his sophomore season, Trevor Lawrence has only been fired 12 times, although given his inferior schedule in comparison to other elite programs, one may argue that this number is low.
With seven takedowns against Penn State and Wisconsin, Chase Young, who comes in with 16.5 sacks of his own, showed that he had a way of showing up in crucial games.
With four or more sacks each from Davon Hamilton, Malik Harrison, Baron Browning, and Jashon Cornell, the junior is by no means the only Buckeye who could get to the Clemson quarterback.
Travis Etienne, who has rushed for triple figures in seven of his previous eight games, will also need to be contained by the Big Ten champion's front seven.
In two playoff games last year, Etienne amassed 195 yards and three touchdowns. He currently has 1,500 running yards and 17 touchdowns.
Ohio State is eighth with 99.5 rushing yards per game, one of seven FBS clubs that allow less than 100.
With Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross catching 21 of the team's 38 throwing touchdowns, Clemson can still inflict aerial damage on its Fiesta Bowl opponent even if Etienne is slowed down.
Jeff Okudah, the Buckeyes defense's second-ranked pick in the NFL draft, will be paired alongside at least one of them.
In his most recent mock draft, Bleacher Report's Matt Miller had Okudah at number five and Young at number two.
Isaiah Simmons, a linebacker who Miller projects to be a top-10 choice, is the star of Clemson's defense, which may not have the same name recognition.
The junior ranks third in passes defended, behind K'Von Wallace and Nolan Turner, and leads the Tigers in tackles and sacks.
Few teams have been able to reduce J.K. Dobbins' output, which is what Simmons and the ninth-ranked Clemson rushing defense will have to do.
In the last three games, the junior has gained 540 rushing yards, all of which came from more than 30 carries.
