#2 Ohio State Buckeyes vs #3 Michigan Wolverines What to Watch:
When the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines play the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in The Game at Michigan Stadium on Saturday, one of college football's most acrimonious rivalries is about to be renewed. The victor of this game will advance to the College Football Playoff and, most likely, the Big Ten Championship Game versus Iowa. After defeating Maryland 31–24, the Wolverines will once more be without head coach Jim Harbaugh due to a suspension. After defeating Minnesota 37-3 in their most recent game, the Buckeyes are hoping to continue their winning ways. With victories in the previous two years, Michigan leads the series all-time 60–51–6.
Over the past four games since 2019, Ohio State has struggled as an underdog, finishing 1-3 straight up and 2-2 against the spread. Michigan is on a 21-game winning streak at home, so the Buckeyes are going to one of the most challenging environments in the nation. With a winning margin of 28 points on average, the Wolverines have covered the spread at an 11-8-2 clip in those games.
That shouldn't be a problem on Saturday because they've become used to playing without Harbaugh. With just 7.2 points per game allowed at home, the Wolverines lead the nation in both scoring defense and total defense.
Last year, they easily defeated Ohio State 45-23, and their offense has scored at least 30 points in six home wins.
Ohio State is among college football's most talented teams overall, as has been the case for the past ten years. This year's Buckeyes are headed by a formidable defense, despite their reputation for offensive prowess. OSU tops college football in passing defense, giving up 144.4 yards per game, and comes into this game rated No. 2 in the nation in points allowed per game (9.3).
TreVeyon Henderson, a running back, and Marvin Harrison Jr., a wide receiver, lead the Buckeyes offensively. Harrison, who is regarded as the nation's finest player overall, has 62 receptions for 1,093 yards and 13 touchdowns, while Henderson has ran for 794 yards and 10 touchdowns. In 2023, Ohio State averaged 33.6 points per game, good for third place in the Big Ten. Check out SportsLine to see which side to support.
