The 2010 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) season's national champion was determined by the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, which was renamed the 2011 Tostitos BCS National Championship Game for marketing purposes. On January 10, 2011, at 8:30 p.m. ET, the 2010–2011 Bowl Championship Series finale took place at the University of Phoenix Stadium, which hosts the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

By airing on ESPN and simulcasting on ESPN3, the game became the first BCS National Championship Game not to be broadcast on network television. It received a 16.1 rating, the highest overnight rating ever for a cable television program, surpassing the previous high of 14.4 set by the 2009 New England Patriots vs. New Orleans Saints game on ESPN. Arizona hosted the national championship for the second time under the BCS era. Additionally, it was the first time the BCS National Championship was streamed to an Xbox 360 video game device.
