Texas Longhorns vs USC Trojans 2006 What to Watch:

The 2006 Rose Bowl Game, which was the BCS National Championship Game for the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season, took place on January 4, 2006, in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. It included the season's only two undefeated teams: the USC Trojans, two-time defending AP national champions, and the Pacific-10 Conference titleholders, who were played by the defending Rose Bowl champion and current Big 12 Conference champion Texas Longhorns. Texas would win its fourth football championship in program history and its first consensus national title since 1969 by defeating USC (whose defeat was later formally vacated)[3] 41–38.

Texas's victory was not certain until the final nineteen seconds of the game, which was a back-and-forth struggle. The offensive and defensive Rose Bowl Players of the Game were Texas quarterback Vince Young and safety Michael Huff. Young's game-winning touchdown run on a fourth down was ranked as the fifth-highest-rated play in college football history by ESPN. The game is frequently regarded as the best Rose Bowl game ever and the best college football game ever played. It is also the highest-rated BCS game in TV history, with 21.7% of households watching it.

The Longhorns finished the season third in Division I history in terms of victories and winning percentage, while Texas' Rose Bowl triumph was the school's 800th victory overall. It was only the third time in Rose Bowl history that the two top-ranked teams had faced each other; USC was also a part of the Rose Bowl games in 1963 and 1969.
