#7 Alabama Crimson Tide vs Oklahoma Sooners What to Watch:
On Saturday night, the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-2) will take on the Oklahoma Sooners (5-5) in an attempt to maintain their hopes of earning a College Football Playoff berth. Last week, Alabama defeated Mercer 52–7, extending their winning run to three games. Two weeks ago, Oklahoma suffered a 30-23 loss at then-No. 24 Missouri, one of four losses in their last five games. To guarantee bowl eligibility, the Sooners must either win this game or at LSU the following week.
The game is scheduled to begin at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. In the most recent Oklahoma vs. Alabama odds, Alabama is favored by 14 points.
Although Oklahoma's season has not gone as expected, a victory on Saturday night would give the Sooners an opportunity to turn things around. In October, their offense struggled to score more than 14 points in three consecutive games until rebounding with 59 points in a decisive victory over Maine. Jovantae Barnes, a junior running back, averaged 11.3 yards per attempt while gaining 203 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 runs. However, according to Oklahoma's availability report, Barnes is rated as doubtful.
The Sooners had a bye last week to get ready for this game, but they lost to Missouri two weeks ago after a late fumble return for a touchdown.
On Saturday night, Jackson Arnold, a sophomore quarterback with 1,243 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and three interceptions, will need to be able to protect the ball. Alabama is under a lot of pressure in this game since Oklahoma is 11-2 in its previous 13 home games.
After losing 24-17 to then-No. 11 Tennessee last month, Alabama's offense faltered, but in their following three games, the Crimson Tide have appeared to be almost unbeatable. They covered the spread in all three of those games, defeating Missouri, LSU, and Mercer by a total score of 128–20. With four defeats in their last five games and their only win during that time coming against FCS Maine, Oklahoma has been on the decline.
The Sooners lost at Missouri on a late turnover after being outscored 95-26 against South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Texas. They are just not equipped to compete with a club like Alabama, and their offense has been trading quarterbacks all season. The Crimson Tide have covered the spread in 13 of their last 20 games overall and are 15-2 in their last 17 SEC contests.
