Appalachian State Mountaineers vs Coastal Carolina Chanticleers What to Watch:

This season, neither the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers nor the Appalachian State Mountaineers have met expectations for success. Both teams finished with winning records in Sun Belt Conference play last season, with Appalachian State finishing second in the Sun Belt Conference East and Coastal Carolina finishing third. But both teams will be trying to simply break above.500 when Coastal Carolina meets Appalachian State on Thursday night. Coastal Carolina is likewise 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the league, while Appalachian State is 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The game will kick off at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina, at 8 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State odds, the Mountaineers are 2-point favorites.

In their ten matches with Coastal Carolina, the Mountaineers have won seven of them, including a 6-1 road record. In 2021, Appalachian State defeated Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina, 30-27. Following their first back-to-back wins of the season, the Mountaineers are playing some of their finest football to date. In the meantime, Coastal Carolina has dropped their last three games while giving up 37 points per game, including at least 34 points in each of those games.

Joey Aguilar, the senior quarterback, is continuing to build on his success from his App State debut the previous season. Aguilar has 2,270 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions this season after throwing for 3,757 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions the previous season.

With at least 85 receiving yards in six of eight games this season, Kaedin Robinson has been a solid WR1 and has tallied 10 touchdown passes in his last three games.

Prior to their current three-game losing streak, the Chanticleers went 4-1 over their first five games and started the season with three straight wins. However, Coastal Carolina has just had four consecutive winning seasons, including a 25-7 record in the Sun Belt Conference. Although the Chanticleers are 2-0 ATS as a home favorite this season and have already lost more conference games than they did in any of those four prior seasons, two of their three conference losses occurred away from home.

In three of the previous four matchups and in consecutive years, Coastal Carolina has triumphed over Appalachian State. In last season's 27-24 victory over App. State, running back Braydon Bennett recorded 127 yards from scrimmage, including a touchdown run. Bennett has at least one touchdown in five of his six games this season and leads the team with 391 running yards. On Thursday, he is expected to be crucial against an App. State defense that allows 204.6 running yards per game, which is 116th in NCAA football. He is averaging 6.5 yards per carry this season.
