Arizona Wildcats vs #14 BYU Cougars What to Watch:

On Saturday afternoon, the No. 14 BYU Cougars take on the Arizona Wildcats, their new Big 12 foes, in an attempt to continue their incredible 2024 campaign. The previous Saturday, BYU (5-0) defeated Baylor 34-28 on the road, earning them a bye in Week 6. After defeating No. 10 Utah, Arizona (3-2) lost to Texas Tech at home, 28–22. Since the Cougars' 24-16 victory in Las Vegas in 2021, this is the teams' first matchup. Arizona is 1-4 ATS in 2024, while BYU is 5-0 against the spread this season.

At 4 p.m. ET, LaVell Edwards Stadium will kick off. According to the most recent BYU vs. Arizona odds, the Cougars are 3-point favorites.

There is only one way to characterize Arizona's 2024 football season: a roller coaster. The Wildcats can appear like a top-25 squad or very different from that depending on the week. QB Noah Fifita completed 28 of 49 throws for 301 yards and two interceptions in the team's defeat against Texas Tech last week. Despite seven Red Zone efforts, the Wildcats only managed one touchdown. Tetairoa McMillan, the star wide receiver, with eight receptions for 161 yards during the loss.

But over the past two years, Fifita has an 8-1 record as a starter versus ranked opponents. In terms of success, BYU also exhibits significant day/night fluctuations. In games against FBS opponents since 2019, BYU has a 28-3 record in complete darkness and a 5-14 record in full-day contests with sunshine.

The Wildcats in Provo on Saturday appear to have a bright future, which increases the likelihood that Arizona will win or keep the game close.

Jake Retzlaff's outstanding quarterback play has contributed to the Cougars being one of the more unexpected tales in NCAA football this season. Against five interceptions, the junior has passed for 1,208 yards and 12 touchdowns. In terms of preventing bad plays, BYU's offensive line is also performing well. Retzlaff is one of the few quarterbacks in the country to have only been fired five times.

The only Cougars player with more than 100 rushing yards this season is, surprisingly, BYU's quarterback. After the team's bye week to play Arizona, star running back LJ Martin, who has been sidelined since an injury in Week 2, should be fully recovered this week. The Cougars' top-producing wide receivers, Chase Roberts (21-336-2) and Darius Lassiter (16-235-3), should pose a threat to an Arizona defense that is down two important safeties.
