Boston College Eagles vs Virginia Tech Hokies What to Watch:

On Thursday night, the Boston College Eagles and Virginia Tech Hokies will play each other. The Eagles undoubtedly hope that this game will proceed differently than the 48–22 victory over Boston College by Virginia Tech last year. The Hokies are 3-1 in their last four home games versus the Eagles, winning by an average of 30.7 points. Virginia Tech has also won three of the previous four encounters between these two teams.

The game will kick off from Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium/Worsham Field at 7:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Boston College vs. Virginia Tech odds, Virginia Tech is a 7.5-point favorite.

Given that Virginia Tech is a run-heavy team, the Eagles' run defense—which is among the best in the nation—will be put to the test in a matchup of strength. In college football, Boston College only permits 3.4 yards per carry, good for 25th place, and 113.6 rushing yards per game, good for 30th place. On September 2, the Eagles defeated Florida State 28–13, limiting them to 21 running yards at 1.3 yards per carry. Boston College restricted the Cavaliers to 3.3 yards per carry in their most recent game, while losing 24–14 to Virginia.

Boston College's defensive end, Donovan Ezeiruaku, has been a disruptive player this season.

The 6-foot-2, 247-pound senior has nine sacks this season, which is second in college football, after starting the season with two against Florida State. After recording 14 tackles, including three sacks, against Western Kentucky the previous game, Ezeiruaku recorded 10 tackles, including a sack, against Virginia.

On October 5, the Hokies defeated Stanford 31–7, ending their two-game losing streak. By scoring a score in every quarter and forcing two turnovers, Virginia Tech's steady offensive play ignited the victory. In a 38-34 loss on September 27, the Hokies, who had scored a touchdown in seven of their past eight quarters, came close to defeating No. 7 Miami before giving up the final 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Even yet, the game demonstrated that Virginia Tech, only two years after finishing 1-6 in ACC play, can compete with the best in the league. Last season, the Hokies defeated Boston College 48–22 and finished 5–3 in the ACC. In the victory, Kyron Drones ran for 135 yards and 20 carries and completed 12 of 17 throws for 219 yards and two scores. Drones completed 73.7% of his throws last week, throwing for 201 yards and two touchdowns. If he can match last year's impressive stats against the Eagles, Boston College may have a tough night.
