Bowling Green Falcons vs #8 Penn State Nittany Lions What to Watch:
On Saturday afternoon, No. 8 Penn State (1-0) will play Bowling Green (1-0) in the first of a four-game homestand. Despite a two-hour lightning delay during the game, the Nittany Lions defeated West Virginia 34–12 to start the first week off strongly. With a 41-17 victory over Fordham to start the season, Bowling Green jumped out to a 27-0 lead and never looked back. The Nittany Lions and Falcons haven't faced each other since 1998, when Penn State easily defeated them 48–3.
Penn State's defense restricted the Mountaineers to 246 total yards in their resounding season-opening victory over West Virginia.
In a contest that had a two-hour weather delay, West Virginia only gained 85 running yards and committed three turnovers. Penn State had four plays of at least 40 yards and amassed 457 total yards on offense.
During the second quarter, quarterback Drew Allar completed 11 of 17 throws for 216 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Nicholas Singleton had 114 rushing yards, and wide receiver Harrison Wallace III grabbed five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns. In its last 20 games, Penn State has covered the spread at a 15-4-1 clip, making them one of the most lucrative teams in college football.
In Week 1, Bowling Green defeated Fordham handily, building on their strong end to the previous season. As of right now, the Falcons have covered the spread in five of their previous six away games and four of their last five games overall. As 14.5-point favorites, they easily covered the spread thanks to their 27-0 advantage early in the second quarter.
As he started the sixth season of his collegiate career, senior quarterback Connor Bazelak completed 15 of 22 passes for 168 yards. Terion Stewart, a junior running back, averaged 11.5 yards per attempt while adding 161 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. The Falcons will have more confidence on Saturday after playing a close game against Big Ten member Minnesota in the Quick Lane Bowl last season.
