#14 BYU Cougars vs #21 Arizona State Sun Devils What to Watch:
In a Big 12 matchup on Saturday afternoon, the No. 14 BYU Cougars (9-1) will take on the No. 21 Arizona State Sun Devils (8-2) in an attempt to avoid losing consecutive games. After Kansas destroyed BYU's flawless season debut in a 17–13 final last week, the school is currently out from consideration for the College Football Playoffs. After defeating then-No. 16 Kansas State 24–14 last week, Arizona State is now on a three-game winning run. This is only the second time these two schools have met this century; in 2021, BYU defeated them 27–17.
At Mountain America Stadium, kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Arizona State vs. BYU odds, Arizona State is favored by three points.
Arizona State has won three straight games and five of its last six, including a 24-14 win at then-No. 16 Kansas State last week as a 7.5-point underdog. Freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt completed 21 of 34 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with sophomore wide receiver Jordyn Tyson 12 times for 176 yards and two scores. Leavitt has been improving as the season has progressed, keeping Arizona State in contention to win the Big 12 championship.
He has completed 61.3% of his passes for 1,906 yards, 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions this season. Senior running back Cam Skattebo has 1,074 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
In five of its last six games overall and five of its last five home games, Arizona State has covered the spread.
After losing to Kansas at home last week, BYU is suddenly in desperate mode since the Cougars are now just outside of the College Football Playoff picture. This game must be won since they still have a chance to end the season strongly and move back on the right side of the bubble. With 2,281 passing yards and 18 touchdowns, junior quarterback Jake Retzlaff leads the offense and has thrown multiple scores in all but two of this season's games.
Retzlaff has 312 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, while sophomore running back LJ Martin leads the rushing assault with 90 carries for 501 yards and five touchdowns. This season, the Cougars have already defeated SMU, Baylor, UCF, and Utah on the road. They have been consistently underrated, covering the spread in nine of their last twelve games.
