#17 BYU Cougars vs #23 Colorado Buffaloes What to Watch:
On Saturday, the No. 23 Colorado Buffaloes (9-3) will play the No. 17 BYU Cougars (10-2) in the 2024 Alamo Bowl, marking the program's third appearance in a bowl game in the previous 19 seasons. Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and kids Shilo and Shedeur Sanders will be coached by head coach Deion Sanders for the final time on Saturday. Under Coach Prime, the Buffs made tremendous progress in their second season, finishing 7-2 in conference play and just missing out on a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game. Despite losing two of its last three regular season games, BYU spent a significant amount of the season as a strong College Football Playoff contender.
Both teams were able to keep their rosters mostly in tact, and will have very few bowl game opt outs. Colorado will be without starting linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green (transfer) and defensive end Dayon Hayes (transfer). BYU lost starting safety Crew Wakley (transfer).

BYU is physical on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the Cougars were among the top teams in the country. BYU finished the regular season ranked atop the Big 12 in both total yards allowed per game (317.0) and points allowed per game (20.1).
With 20 interceptions, the Cougars were second in the nation.
During the regular season, BYU did a fantastic job of limiting errors on offense. Throughout the season, the Cougars were penalized just 57 times and gave up just 16 sacks, both of which were among the most in the Big 12. In 2024, BYU is 7-5 against the spread.
With a 9-3 ATS record so far this season, the Buffs have been excellent against the spread. Under Coach Prime, CU's defensive performance significantly improved in the second season. With an average of 22.0 points per game during the regular season, the Buffs finished fifth in the Big 12. Colorado's 37 total sacks put them first in the conference.
The dynamic team of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will lead the Colorado Buffaloes for the last time. In addition to earning the Heisman Trophy, Biletnikoff Award, Bednarik Award, and Walter Camp Award, Hunter had one of the best seasons in college football history. After throwing for 3,926 yards, 35 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and four rushing touchdowns, Sanders was voted the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
