California Golden Bears vs Auburn Tigers What to Watch:

When Auburn (1-0) hosts California (1-0) on Saturday afternoon, it will continue its five-game homestand to start the season. Last week's 73-3 victory over Alabama A&M gave the Tigers a head start and allowed them to rest their starters in the second half. After defeating UC Davis 31–13 last week, Cal is now touring the nation. The Golden Bears will adjust to these cross-country travel locations as this is their first season in the ACC.

Auburn, which is coming off a dominant performance against Alabama A&M, won 14–10 at Cal last year to start this home-and-home series. Against a defense that gave up just 14 points a game the previous season, the Tigers scored 73 points. Before taking a break in the second half, senior quarterback Payton Thorne completed 13 of 21 throws for 322 yards and four touchdowns.

In addition, he ran four times for 49 yards and another touchdown, and Jarquez Hunter, the senior running back, ran four times for 53 yards and a touchdown. Cal had to travel 2,400 miles for this game after failing to cover the spread against UC Davis the previous week.

In addition to covering in five of its previous seven games overall, Auburn has covered the spread in seven of its last ten home games.

Fernando Mendoza, a sophomore quarterback, completed 15 of 22 throws for 158 yards and a touchdown as California defeated UC Davis 31–13. Jaydn Ott, the Golden Bears' standout rushing back, is anticipated to be available following a left ankle sprain last week. During the third quarter, Ott left the game after rushing for 49 yards and two scores.

Last year, he had 20 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown in a close game that lasted the whole 60 minutes versus Auburn. Ott, who ran for 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns last season and was selected to the first team of the Pac-12, offers California the chance to control the clock on Saturday. In four of their previous five games against SEC opponents, the Golden Bears have covered the spread.
