California Golden Bears vs #22 Pittsburgh Panthers What to Watch:

On Saturday afternoon, the No. 22 Pittsburgh Panthers (5-0) will face the California Golden Bears (3-2) in an attempt to continue their undefeated start to the season. Last week, Pitt defeated North Carolina 34–24 to record their first conference road victory of the season. After winning three games in a row to start the season, Cal has subsequently fallen short against Florida State and Miami, which was ranked eighth at the time. These teams are meeting for the first time since 1966.

At Acrisure Stadium, kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Pittsburgh vs. California odds, Pittsburgh is favored by 3.5 points.

The Panthers have won all five of their games this season, and Pittsburgh's victory over North Carolina moved them into the top 25 for the first time. In the victory over the Tar Heels, redshirt freshman quarterback Eli Holstein broke the school's single-game passing yardage record by throwing for 381 yards and three touchdowns. In addition to rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown, he was named the national Offensive Player of the Week and won the Walter Camp Award.

Since Dan Marino in 1979, Holstein is the first quarterback from Pittsburgh to win his first five starts.

Additionally, he has helped the Panthers cover the spread in each of those games by throwing at least three touchdown passes. Since last season, Pittsburgh has also won six in a row at home and covered the spread.

California began the season on a three-game winning streak, which included a 21–14 victory against Auburn, and has been very outstanding thus far. The Golden Bears have lost both of their subsequent games, but last week they came very close to defeating Miami, who were ranked eighth at the time. They had a 25-point lead before losing it, yet they were 10-point underdogs.

In the Hurricanes' defeat, sophomore quarterback Fernando Mendoza recorded 285 passing yards and two touchdowns. He has rushed for another touchdown and completed 64.8% of his throws for 1,177 yards and seven touchdowns. Although he has been sidelined this season, All-American running back Jaydn Ott, who broke the 100-yard mark five times last season, is anticipated to play on Saturday.
