Colorado State Rams vs #4 Texas Longhorns What to Watch:

The 2024 college football season begins with the No. 4 Texas Longhorns playing the Mountain West's Colorado State Rams at home. After moving to the SEC in 2024, the Longhorns are once again aiming for a national championship. Quinn Ewers, quarterback, and four offensive linemen are among the 15 starters that head coach Steve Sarkisian brings back from the squad that finished 12-2 and qualified for the College Football Playoffs for the first time last season. The Rams want to make their first bowl appearance since 2017 as they begin their third season under head coach Jay Norvell.

In terms of depth and overall talent, Texas has a major edge. Colorado State is thought to be undersized up front on the defensive end of the ball, and the Longhorns are projected to boast one of the top offensive lines in college football. Although Texas needs to replace a number of its wide receivers from the previous campaign, Sarkisian and his staff were able to assemble an exceptional collection of high school recruits and transfers, including five-star transfer Isaiah Bond, who played for Alabama in 2023, and five-star signee Ryan Wingo.

Quinn Ewers, a junior quarterback, is another deserving candidate for the Heisman Trophy for Texas. Ewers completed 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 69% of his passes in 2023. In addition, he ran for five touchdowns and 75 yards.

The Rams will be playing this game with nothing to lose and an explosive offense. In 2023, CSU averaged 26.1 points per game, but they had a terrible time turning the ball over. One of the main areas of focus for the coaching staff throughout the offseason was this, so it should get better in 2024.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, a seasoned quarterback, possesses a dual-threat skill set. Tory Horton, a senior wide receiver and his main target, is possibly the greatest player in the Group of 5 at his position. This combo can challenge a Texas secondary that hasn't been tested much. Finally, it's highly likely that Texas has already been anticipating their Week 2 clash with Michigan.
