Duke Blue Devils vs #5 Miami Hurricanes What to Watch:

On Saturday afternoon, the No. 5 Miami (FL) Hurricanes will play the Duke Blue Devils in an attempt to continue their undefeated start to the season. Miami (8-0) defeated Florida State 36-14 last week, keeping them on course for an ACC championship and a College Football Playoff berth. After starting 5-0 and losing to then-No. 22 SMU in overtime last week, Duke (6-2) has now dropped two of its last three games. As 10-point road underdogs, the Blue Devils shocked the Hurricanes in their most recent meeting (2022).

Miami's Hard Rock Stadium will kick underway at 12:00 ET. According to SportsLine consensus, the Hurricanes are 21 points ahead in the most recent Miami vs. Duke odds.

Driven by the nation's top scoring offense (46.8 points per game), Miami is off to its best start since opening the 2017 season 10-0. Cam Ward, the quarterback, leads the nation in passing touchdowns (24) and passing yards per game (343.3), and the Hurricanes have the top third-down conversion % (59.8). Wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, who leads the ACC in receiving yards (710) and is Ward's top target.

During a decisive victory over Florida State last week, running back Damien Martinez averaged 9.9 yards per carry for 148 rushing yards and two touchdowns. This season, Miami's defense has struggled, but Duke leads the ACC in scoring (26.0).

The Hurricanes have covered the spread in eight of the previous 12 games between these two teams, so the Blue Devils will find it difficult to take advantage of Miami's weakness on Saturday.

This season, Duke has only suffered a double-digit loss once, in a 24–14 final at Georgia Tech at the start of October. After that defeat, the Blue Devils defeated Florida State, covering the spread as 2.5-point favorites. Last week, they put on another impressive show, defeating then-No. 22 SMU in overtime thanks to a 2-point conversion attempt.

Against the Mustangs, Maalik Murphy, a sophomore quarterback, completed 27 of 48 passes for 295 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Earlier this season, as a 2-point underdog, he also had three touchdown passes in a road victory at Northwestern. Duke has won all five of its games against the spread.
