Florida Gators vs Mississippi State Bulldogs What to Watch:
Before their Saturday afternoon clash, the Florida Gators (1-2) and Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-2) are both in dire need of a victory. Billy Napier, the head coach of Florida, is under fire after his team lost to Texas A&M 33–20 last week, its 12th defeat in 15 games against power-conference opponents. Mississippi State, which lost to Toledo 41-17 at home last week, is preparing for its SEC debut. First-year head coach Jeff Lebby will be trying to turn things around in conference play after the Bulldogs suffered their most crushing non-conference home loss since 2006. MSU is 1-2 ATS this season, while Florida is 0-3 against the spread.
Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field will kick off at 12:00 ET. The Gators are favored by 6.5 points in the latest Mississippi State vs. Florida odds.
Napier should have his best strategy ready because he is feeling the heat. Early in the season, he has been using a two-quarterback scheme because both freshman DJ Lagway and senior Graham Mertz have been getting snaps. Given that Napier has two alternatives, neither of them can afford to play poorly in this encounter.
After failing to get a first down on any of its first three attempts, Mississippi State suffered its most lopsided non-conference home loss since 2006.
Despite starting that game as 10.5-point favorites, the Bulldogs did not score a touchdown until there were less than six minutes left in the third quarter. They are 1-7 in their last eight games versus SEC opponents and have only covered the spread three times in their last 14 games.
Due to their losses to Miami and Texas A&M, Florida has had a terrible start to the season. Throughout the week, there has been conjecture about Napier's job security, which undoubtedly lowers the team's spirits as they prepare for their season's first away game.
The Gators are now 1-7 in their last eight games dating back to last season, and they have only covered the spread once during that stretch.
Mississippi State, which has a first-year head coach, is also having trouble getting out to a good start. The Bulldogs are more stable than Florida because they are not concerned about a coaching change in the middle of the season. With 70.1% of his throws completed, senior quarterback Blake Shapen has amassed 834 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception.
