#5 Georgia Bulldogs vs #1 Texas Longhorns What to Watch:
This Saturday night's game between No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Georgia in Austin is the most important matchup on the college football season. The Longhorns aim to produce their largest statement victory of the season as they go into the game favored by more than a field goal.
Quinn Ewers, the starting quarterback for Texas, returned to the starting lineup against Oklahoma last week, but it was obvious he was still getting over some rust as he only managed 199 yards through the air and threw an interception. But it didn't matter because Texas' defense and running game grabbed control.
Ewers is going to get a significantly tougher challenge this week against Georgia. While the Bulldogs defense has not been as dominant as it has been in years past, they still enter the game allowing just 17.2 points per game. They have, at times, been a little vulnerable against the pass, allowing over 192 yards per game, recording only 11 sacks and just three interceptions through the first six games. It is a young, talented defense that is still finding its way.
This week, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will also face a formidable opponent in the Longhorns defense, which is playing on the road and giving up just 6.3 points per game, by far the lowest average in the nation. They are one of only two teams (Army) that give up less than 10 points each game.
The degree of competition Texas' defense has encountered may raise some concerns, but it has already defeated two ranked opponents—Oklahoma and Michigan—by a combined score of 65–15. This includes giving the Sooners just three points last week.
