#5 Georgia Bulldogs vs #2 Texas Longhorns What to Watch:
When the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (10-2, 6-2) play the No. 2 Texas Longhorns (11-1, 7-1) in the 2024 SEC Championship Game on Saturday, they hope to strengthen their résumé for the College Football Playoffs. In October, Georgia gave Texas its only defeat of the season, but in its final game, Georgia Tech defeated them in eight overtimes. The Lonestar Showdown was played for the first time in 13 years, and the Longhorns just defeated Texas A&M 17–7. While the loser should remain in the field but compete in the first round, the winner will most likely obtain at least the No. 2 overall seed in the CFP bracket.
Georgia names defensive lineman Christen Miller and running backs Trevor Etienne, Branson Robinson, and Chauncey Bowers as questionable, while Texas names offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. as questionable.
Kickoff at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium is scheduled at 4 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Texas vs. Georgia odds, the Longhorns are 2.5 points ahead.
Despite its inconsistencies in 2024, Georgia is still among the nation's most skilled teams. The Bulldogs should be feeling quite confident going into Saturday after defeating Texas on the road earlier in the season. Furthermore, Georgia can only guarantee its spot in the College Football Playoffs with two defeats if it wins the SEC Championship.
Carson Beck, the quarterback for Georgia, has been inconsistent in 2024 but is still able to exploit any defense. Beck has 3,429 throwing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions going into Saturday. Beck completed his pass for 297 yards and five touchdowns in Georgia's victory over Georgia Tech. Malaki Starks, a safety who is expected to be selected early in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, leads the Bulldogs defensively.
Texas will be looking to exact revenge for their season's lone defeat. The Longhorns have dominated most of their 2024 games, with the exception of their October setback to Georgia.
With a well-balanced offensive attack that averages 34.8 points per game and a stifling defense that ranks second in NCAA football in terms of points allowed per game (11.7), the Texas Longhorns have been dominant on all sides of the ball.
Both total yards allowed per game (247.5) and points allowed per game (11.7) are defensively the SEC's highest for Texas. Only Georgia and Vanderbilt have managed to score more than 20 points against the Longhorns. Anthony Hill Jr., the Horns' sophomore linebacker and probable All-American, has been a standout player, leading the team in tackles (84), sacks (7.5), and forced fumbles (4). This season, he has also made one interception.
