Houston Cougars vs Arizona Wildcats What to Watch:

The Arizona Wildcats play the Houston Cougars on Friday night in an attempt to win their first Big 12 home game. Arizona (3-6), who have lost five straight conference games, is coming off a bye week after losing 56-12 against Central Florida in Week 10. Most recently, Houston (4-5) defeated No. 17 Kansas State 24-19 at home to win two straight games. The Wildcats have a 1-3 record overall, including defeats in 2017 and 2018, against the Cougars. In 2024, Arizona is 1-8 ATS while Houston is 5-4 against the spread.

Arizona Stadium will kick off the game at 10:15 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Arizona vs. Houston odds, the Wildcats are currently 1-point favorites after beginning at -3.5.

After a dismal 1-4 start, the Cougars have won three of their last four games and have a remote chance of qualifying for the bowl game in coach Willie Fritz's debut season. After serving as the team's backup to Donovan Smith, quarterback Zeon Chriss has emerged as a standout starter in recent games and offers a dual threat at the position. Chriss ran 22 times for 75 yards and another touchdown against Kansas State, and he went 11 for 11 throwing for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Houston has an almost 50/50 passing and running ratio and is last in the conference in total yards (292.8 per game).

The Cougars may be able to take advantage of these reserves because Arizona's defense is missing a number of key players, particularly at linebacker and in the secondary. Additionally, Houston has the conference's second-best defense (318.9 yards allowed).

The majority of Brent Brennan's first season in Tucson has been difficult, with numerous significant injuries and poor performances. The Wildcats have already dropped six of their last seven games, but earlier in the season they held the record for the longest winning run in the country (nine games). Even though they were rated earlier this year, they will be out of bowl contention with one more defeat.

In his first complete season as a starter, quarterback Noah Fifita has mostly disappointed, throwing for 2,324 yards with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Tetairoa McMillan, the team's top wide receiver and a highly-regarded NFL prospect, has been a bright spot, hauling in 1,066 yards and six touchdowns on 63 receptions. Fifita and McMillan will be expected to carry the offensive burden against the tough Cougars defense for a club that hasn't scored more than 26 points since Week 1.
