Houston Cougars vs TCU Horned Frogs What to Watch:
One of the most recent Big 12 games will take place on Friday night between Houston and TCU, in-state rivals. Despite being a new member of the conference, Houston has only gone 2-9 in Big 12 play since then, including 0-2 this season. In 2024, TCU is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Cougars are 1-4 overall. The Horned Frogs have beaten the Cougars nine times in a row and won their first Big 12 encounter last year. Houston is 2-3 ATS this season, while TCU is 1-4 against the spread.
kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. The Horned Frogs are currently favored by 16.5 points after starting at -18.5.
Only ten teams in all of college football allow less passing yards per game than Houston, thus the Cougars have the defensive capacity to slow down TCU and make this a competitive contest. Since the Horned Frogs aren't designed to run the ball, TCU's offense may stop if they can't get the ball through the air. Their pitiful 3.3 yards per run puts them 115th in the nation, and their 101 rushing yards per game puts them 115th out of 134 FBS teams.
When it comes to spread success, Houston also offers a lot of advantages. TCU typically struggles to handle success in its subsequent game, and it is 6-3 against the spread after suffering a straight-up loss since the beginning of last year.
The Horned Frogs have won since the beginning of 2023, although they are only 2-5 ATS. That is the second-worst cover rate among the current Big 12 clubs, with a mere 28.6% cover percentage.
With a passing attack ranking fourth in all of college football and third in the Big 12 in scoring, few teams can equal the Horned Frogs' offensive output. In last week's victory over Kansas, TCU scored three throwing touchdowns, which is the same number as Houston has scored this season. Quarterback Josh Hoover has an outstanding wide receiver in Jack Bech, and he leads the Big 12 in both total yards (1,768) and total touchdowns (16).
Bech went to TCU last year after attending LSU for two years, but 2024 has been his breakthrough year. He leads the Big 12 in both receiving yards (647) and receiving touchdowns (six), and he is ranked second in FBS. In each of his last three games, he has accumulated at least eight receptions, 131 yards, and five touchdowns. Additionally, he has a reliable rushing partner in Eric McAlister, who has recorded consecutive games with 100 yards or more.
