#20 Illinois Fighting Illini vs #1 Oregon Ducks What to Watch:
On Thursday night, the No. 9 Oregon Ducks (12-1) will host the No. 22 Illinois Fighting Illini (9-3) in an early-season test. Since losing to UCLA on a last-second 3-pointer on December 8, Oregon has won three straight games, including Sunday's 89-49 victory against Weber State. Illinois' victories over Missouri and Chicago State have helped them recover from a defeat to Tennessee, ranked first. These teams are meeting for the first time since 2014.
Matthew Knight Arena will host the game on Thursday at 10 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Oregon vs. Illinois odds, Oregon is favored by 4.5 points.
Oregon defeated Weber State 89-49 on Sunday to wrap off the non-conference portion of its schedule, which saw them finish 11-0 this season. The Ducks are among the top 100 in steal and turnover rates, and they are among the top 25 in 3-point defense nationally. Against Weber State, they had five players score in double figures, with guard Jackson Shelstad leading the way with 16 points.
This season, the Ducks have five players who score in double figures, with Nate Bittle leading the pack with an average of 13.2 points and 8.5 rebounds. TJ Bamba, a Villanova transfer, is contributing 10.4 points, while Shelstad is contributing 10.8 points. Illinois has only covered once in its past five games, while Oregon has covered the spread six times in its last eight games.
In addition to losing in OT at Northwestern, Illinois has also suffered defeats to two top-10 teams, Alabama and Tennessee. The Illini have been put to the test early in the season, as seen by their victories over Wisconsin and Arkansas in the top 20. They scored a season-high 117 points against the Cougars and are coming off victories over Missouri and Chicago State.
Kylan Boswell recorded the eighth triple-double in school history with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. With 16.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, star freshman guard Kasparas Jakucionis leads Illinois, while sophomore center Tomislav Ivisic contributes 14.7 points and 9.3 rebounds. In their last six Big Ten games, the Illini have won five of them.
