Indiana Hoosiers vs UCLA Bruins What to Watch:
The UCLA Bruins (1-0) will host the Indiana Hoosiers (2-0) on Saturday night in their first conference match as Big Ten members. After defeating Hawaii 16–13 to start the season, UCLA had last week off. Indiana defeated Western Illinois 77-3 in Week 2 after defeating FIU 31-7 in Week 1. The school's single-game scoring record of 76 points, achieved in 1901 against Franklin College, was surpassed by the Hoosiers.
The Rose Bowl will kick play on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Indiana has a three-point advantage.
UCLA outscored the Rainbow Warriors 16-3 in the second half to narrowly defeat Hawaii on the road in their first game. Ethan Garbers, the senior quarterback, ran for 47 yards on seven carries and passed for 272 yards and a touchdown. Rico Flores Jr., a sophomore wide receiver, hauled in three catches for a team-high 102 yards.
This is the perfect time slot for the Bruins, who were given the week off to recuperate from that lengthy trip and get ready for their first Big Ten game. Indiana is traveling for the first time this season and has played against poor opposition in its first two games.
In September, UCLA has won nine of its ten games, while Indiana has lost six of its twenty games.
Although UCLA may benefit from the additional rest, the Bruins are still early in the season and are unable to establish a routine. They are playing under first-year coach DeShaun Foster and are coming off a lackluster showing against Hawaii. Under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti, Indiana is off to a great start. Last week, the team scored a school-record 77 points while giving up just 10 points in its first two games.
Kurtis Rourke, a transfer quarterback from Ohio and the 2022 MAC Offensive Player of the Year, has completed 30 of 41 passes this season for 448 yards and three touchdowns. Senior running back Justice Ellison has carried for 185 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. has seven grabs for 176 yards. The Bruins have only covered the spread twice in their last seven games, compared to five times for the Hoosiers.
