#11 Iowa State Cyclones vs West Virginia Mountaineers What to Watch:
On Saturday night, the West Virginia Mountaineers (3-2) will face the No. 11 Iowa State Cyclones (5-0) in an attempt to pull off another unexpected win. West Virginia defeated Oklahoma State on the road and Kansas at home in its first two Big 12 games. After defeating Baylor 43–21, Iowa State is off to a flawless start this season. Although they didn't play last year, these teams have split their last ten encounters.
On Saturday, kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Milan Puskar Stadium's Mountaineer Field. According to the most recent West Virginia vs. Iowa State odds, the Cyclones are favored by three points.
West Virginia has won three of its last four games after suffering a crushing defeat to then-No. 8 Penn State in a contest that was significantly impacted by bad weather to start the season. The Mountaineers, who are 5-0 this season, only lost once during that run, in a 38-34 final at Pittsburgh. West Virginia has now defeated Kansas and Oklahoma State in retaliation for that mid-September setback.
Jahiem White, a sophomore running back, carried for 158 yards and a touchdown when the Mountaineers, who were 3-point underdogs, faced Oklahoma State. Senior quarterback Garrett Greene ran for 86 yards and a touchdown and completed 9 of 15 passes for 159 yards.
In four of its last six games as an underdog, West Virginia has covered the spread.
Last week, Iowa State defeated Baylor 43-21, extending their undefeated start to 5-0. Quarterback Rocco Becht completed 16 of 25 throws for a season-high 277 yards and two touchdowns. For the first time since 1980, Iowa State is off to a 5-0 start thanks to Becht, who has completed over two-thirds of his passes for 1,173 yards and nine touchdowns. Becht's top target, Jayden Higgins, has caught 33 passes for 403 yards.
Jaylon Jackson (295), a transfer from Eastern Michigan, is the most prolific of the Cyclones' three running backs who have rushed for at least 200 yards. West Virginia's defense, which has struggled at times this season and gives up 25.6 points per game, will be their opponent. In six consecutive away games, Iowa State has covered the spread.
