Iowa Hawkeyes vs UCLA Bruins What to Watch:

On Friday night, the Iowa Hawkeyes travel west to play the UCLA Bruins in an attempt to win their fourth straight game. Last Saturday, UCLA (3-5, 2-4) shocked Nebraska, 27-20, while Iowa (6-3 overall, 4-2 Big Ten) thrashed Wisconsin, 42-10. This is the clubs' first encounter since the Bruins' 45-28 triumph in the Rose Bowl in 1986. In 2024, UCLA is 5-2-1 ATS while Iowa is 5-4 against the spread. This season, Iowa has hit the Over in eight of its nine games.

The Rose Bowl kickoff is set at 9:00 p.m. ET. In the most recent Iowa vs. UCLA odds, the Hawkeyes are currently 6.5-point favorites after beginning at -5.5.

The Hawkeyes appear to be at their best going into this week's matchup at the Rose Bowl after defeating Northwestern and Wisconsin by a combined score of 82-24 in their last two games. Running back Kaleb Johnson dominated the game against Wisconsin, carrying 24 times for 135 yards and three scores. With 1,279 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, Iowa's standout runner is second in the nation. This season, he has ran for 100 yards or more seven times. He has a chance to advance with some impressive late-season performances, but his Heisman odds of +20,000 make him a longshot.

The Hawkeyes will have to rely on their ground game, which ranks 10th in the nation (222.4 yards per game), while quarterback Cade McNamara is sidelined once more due to a concussion. Though they have had trouble against the pass, UCLA's defense is reasonably strong against the run (100.4 yards per game allowed). The second-worst passing average in the conference is being given up by the Bruins, who allow 261.3 yards per game. In order to counter UCLA's shortcoming, backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan might be required to perform more than he has in recent weeks.

After falling to Minnesota at home in the final minute of the game, UCLA has recently improved, winning its last two away games.

Earlier this season, the Bruins played four consecutive top-15 opponents, and coach Deshaun Foster has seen some tenacity in the face of weaker opposition. QB Ethan Garbers has passed for 602 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the team's last two games, both of which were triumphs.

Garbers has 1,703 throwing yards, 10 touchdowns, and nine interceptions this season. The Bruins will probably have to move the ball via patient, methodical drives against the Hawkeyes' defense because they only have one receiver who can go 300 yards through the air and no running back who can go 250 yards rushing. UCLA will look for its first Rose Bowl victory in 2024 and its third consecutive upset triumph in what should be an exciting Friday night matchup.
