Kentucky Wildcats vs #3 Texas Longhorns What to Watch:
On Saturday afternoon, the No. 3 Texas Longhorns (9-1) will play the Kentucky Wildcats (4-6) in an attempt to advance further toward SEC Championship and College Football Playoff participation. Following its lone setback to then-No. 5 Georgia last month, Texas has won three straight games, including a 20-10 victory against Arkansas last week. After dropping its last four games, Kentucky needs to win its next two to qualify for the bowl. Last week, the Wildcats defeated Murray State 48-6, just covering the 41.5-point spread, to end that run.
On Saturday, Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Texas vs. Kentucky odds, Texas is ahead by 20.5 points.
With six of its nine victories this season coming by a margin of at least 20 points, Texas has become used to winning games in a landslide. Junior quarterback Quinn Ewers led the Longhorns to a 49-17 victory over Florida in their most recent home game, scoring five touchdowns and 333 passing yards. Last week, he played a more subdued game versus Arkansas, but the Texas defense came through in the 20–10 victory.
Just 231 total yards were given up by the Longhorns, 74 of which came in the first half. Jaydon Blue, the running back, continued to balance the attack with 83 rushing yards on 13 carries. The Wildcats are No. 14 in the SEC and 109th overall in scoring, while Kentucky is last in the SEC and 107th in total offense in the NCAA.
Last week, Kentucky defeated Murray State 48–6 to get back on track and end a four-game losing streak. Jamarion Wilcox ran for 123 yards and a touchdown on 13 rushes. As Kentucky amassed 582 offensive yards, quarterback Brock Vandagriff recorded 183 throwing yards and two touchdowns. Although they may not be able to make it to the bowl nine times in a row, the Wildcats have demonstrated their potential several times this season.
In September, they defeated then-No. 6 Ole Miss as 17.5-point underdogs after losing to then-No. 1 Georgia by one point. Earlier this month, Kentucky covered the spread in their defeat to Tennessee, which was ranked seventh at the time. Texas has only covered the spread twice in its last six games, compared to nine of the Wildcats' last 13 road games overall.
