Louisville Cardinals vs Washington Huskies What to Watch:
When the Washington Huskies play the Louisville Cardinals in the 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl on Tuesday, CBS on Paramount+, they will try to reclaim some of the glory of the previous season. The Huskies advanced to the CFP Championship game last season as the nation's second-ranked team, but they struggled to achieve the same level of dominance in their first season in the Big Ten and ended the season 6-6. The Cardinals finished the season sixth in the ACC but received a nice boost from back-to-back victories to end the season. The most notable opt-out for this game is Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough.
Kickoff from the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET. According to the most recent Washington vs. Louisville odds, the Huskies are favored by 1.5 points.
In the 2022 Fenway Bowl, the Cardinals defeated Cincinnati 24-7, continuing their recent bowl game success. With victories over Clemson, Pitt, and Kentucky, Louisville covered the spread in three of its final four games of the 2024 regular season, which ended with a 6-6-0 ATS record.
Due to the transfer portal and opt-outs, Shough and a few other players will be absent, but the Cardinals still have important offensive pieces that will pose a threat to the Huskies.
After winning the ACC's Rookie and Offensive Player of the Year awards, they will rely on running back Isaac Brown to spearhead the ground attack. Washington's rushing defense, which finished at the bottom of the Big Ten this season after giving up 158.1 yards on the ground, will be the target of his feast.
Washington finished the regular season with an average of 22.5 points and 383.7 yards of total offense per game, excellent for 13th and eighth in the Big Ten, respectively, despite a difficult first season in a new conference. In two of their previous four games, including two close in-conference wins against UCLA and USC, they also covered the spread.
After veteran Will Rogers was benched late in the regular season, Washington is turning to Demond Williams Jr., a rookie who is expected to start at center. In the regular-season finale, Williams avoided throwing any interceptions against a formidable Oregon defense and completed almost 77% of his passes this season. He should be well-prepared to face a Louisville defense that was sixth in the ACC at the end of the season.
