Memphis Tigers vs Florida State Seminoles What to Watch:
The Memphis Tigers (2-0) will travel to meet the Florida State Seminoles (0-2) on Saturday in an exciting non-conference game. This will be the first game since 1990, but the Seminoles are ahead 10-7-1 in the series overall. After suffering back-to-back shocking losses to ACC rivals Boston College and Georgia Tech to start the season, FSU is in dire need of a win. Memphis is a candidate to play in the College Football Playoff as a member of the Group of Five. It would undoubtedly help to defeat a program like FSU and former Tigers coach Mike Norvell, who was in charge from 2016 to 2019.
With an average of 135 rushing yards per game, Memphis has demonstrated its ability to move the ball on the ground. The Tigers' bellcow in the backfield is senior running back Mario Anderson. Anderson avoids defenders by using his explosiveness and straight-line speed. He has 171 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries.
He also averages 6.3 yards per carry and 85.5 rushing yards a game. He recorded 125 yards and two touchdowns the previous week. Demeer Blankumsee, a senior receiver, has excellent downfield ball tracking skills and remarkable post-catch elusiveness. The Ohio native recorded seven receptions for 96 yards in 2024, with an average of 13.7 yards per catch. He has scored more than forty-five yards in two consecutive games.
Although the Seminoles haven't been able to get into a routine this season, there is still time to change that. The most reliable pass-catcher has been senior wide receiver Ja'khi Douglas. With the ball in his hands, Douglas can create YAC possibilities thanks to his exceptional short-area speed. With 15.1 yards per catch, the Louisiana native leads the club in receiving yards (121) and receptions (8).
Douglas caught four passes for 66 yards in his most recent game. Kentron Poitier, a 6-foot-3 senior receiver, adds some variety to the Seminoles' lineup. Poitier can haul down those contested receptions and box out defenders because to his good size. The Florida native has caught 32 passes for 574 yards and five touchdowns throughout his time in college. Poitier has three receptions for 79 yards and one touchdown in the Boston College defeat.
