Memphis Tigers vs #17 Tulane Green Wave What to Watch:

On Thursday night, the No. 17 Tulane Green Wave will face the Memphis Tigers in an attempt to win the conference for the 19th time in a row. Although Tulane (9-2) has already secured a spot against Army in the AAC Championship Game next week, defeating the Tigers would allow them to complete their conference schedule with an undefeated record and remain in the running for the College Football Playoffs. As of right now, Tulane has a +410 chance of making the 12-team field. For the first time in program history, Memphis (9-2) would want nothing more than to play spoiler and secure double-digit victory seasons in consecutive years. Last week, both teams had byes.

Benson Field at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans will kick off the game at 7:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Memphis vs. Tulane odds, the Green Wave are favored by 13.5 points.

On the ground, the Tigers merely thrash their opponents. They have four games with more than 200 running yards in their last five games, and they are coming off back-to-back games with more than 200 yards. Mario Anderson Jr. has 18 total touchdowns, which is seventh in all of college football, and 1,115 rushing yards, which puts him third in the AAC. Brandon Thomas, his backup, has at least eight rushing touchdowns in each of the last four seasons and is a player who could start for many teams.

In addition to his skill on the goal line, he is a big play danger who averages 6.3 yards per carry and has six goals in his last six games.

Memphis is just as good at stopping the opposition's running game as it is on the ground. The Tigers' 3.8 yards per carry allowed is the lowest of any AAC team. For the fourth time in 2024, the club limited an opponent to fewer than 40 rushing yards in its most recent game, giving up only 28 rushing yards. The Tigers have the second-highest takeaways in the conference, averaging 1.9 per game, demonstrating their opportunistic play on that side of the ball.

Tulane is as balanced as any team in the country, as seen by the Green Wave's fourth-place scoring offense and tenth-place scoring defense rankings. The Green Wave are coming off what may have been their most comprehensive game, and they are the only side in the Group of Five to rank in the top 10 of both. Before their bye, they defeated a Navy team that had been ranked as recently as October 35-0.

Before the game, the Midshipmen were averaging 259.1 running yards, but they were unable to surpass 100 yards against Tulane. The Green Wave had two takeaways, played offense without committing any turnovers, and stopped Navy to just 2.9 yards per rush. Tulane has excelled in ball protection this season, as seen by the fact that it has only given up three goals in its last eight games, all of which have ended in wins.
