#8 Miami Hurricanes vs California Golden Bears What to Watch:
In an ACC game on Saturday, the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes (5-0, 1-0) travel to the West Coast to play the California Golden Bears (3-1, 0-1) in an attempt to remain undefeated. Miami won 38-34 in its most recent game, just missing an upset over Virginia Tech. Cam Ward, a candidate for the Heisman Trophy, leads the Canes. Cal wants to recover from a humiliating 14-9 defeat at the hands of Florida State. The Bears have prevailed in both of these programs' meetings; their most recent victory was 24–17 in 2008.
Berkeley's California Memorial Stadium will kick off at 10:30 p.m. ET. The most recent Cal vs. Miami odds show Miami as the favorite by 10.5 points.
Cam Ward, a quarterback for Miami, is a potential Heisman Trophy winner. In 2024, the Washington State transfer has taken the Canes to a new level and put them in a position to contend for a College Football Playoff berth. Ward has passed 1,782 yards, 18 touchdowns, and four interceptions on 70.2% of his attempts this season. In addition, he has ran for two touchdowns and 146 yards.
In 2024, the Canes have also dominated the defensive end of the ball. With 4.5 sacks in five games to start the season, senior defensive lineman Tyler Baron has been a force. Mishael Powell, Miami's senior defensive back, has also been excellent, recording three of the team's nine interceptions.
Miami's trip will be rather lengthy, and the Golden Bears are 2-0 at home this season. For this ACC game, the Canes will have to travel more than 3,000 miles. Cal has had two weeks to get ready for this game and is also coming off a bye.
Cal boasts two talented running backs in Jaydn Ott, a junior, and Jaivian Thomas, a sophomore. Ott has ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries, while Thomas has rushed for 267 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries (7.0 yards per carry). If the Bears can get some early success on the ground, they can slow down this game and prevent Ward from getting the ball.
