Mississippi State Bulldogs vs #7 Tennessee Volunteers What to Watch:

On Saturday night, the No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers (7-1) will visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-7) in an attempt to maintain their hopes of earning a berth in the College Football Playoffs. Since its shocking defeat at Arkansas, Tennessee has won three straight games, including last week's 28-18 victory against Kentucky. Last week, Mississippi State defeated UMass 45–20 to end a seven-game losing streak, although they have yet to secure their first major-conference victory of the year. The Vols are one of five teams with one conference defeat at the top of the SEC rankings, while the Bulldogs are the only club in last place.

Neyland Stadium will kick off on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Tennessee vs. Mississippi State odds, Tennessee is favored by 24.5 points.

Tennessee is positioned to qualify with sustained success after making their debut at No. 7 in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday. Dylan Sampson, the Vols' standout rushing back, had 142 yards and two touchdowns in their recent victory over Kentucky, which ended 28–18. With 19 rushing touchdowns, he broke the school's single-season record, which had been held by Gene McIver for 95 years.

Only 20 rushing yards are needed for Sampson to reach 1,000 yards for the season, and 19 are needed to get 2,000 yards for his career. Redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who has 1,705 throwing yards and nine touchdowns, is under less pressure now that he is successful. Additionally, the Vols are supported by a top-tier defense that allows only 12.4 points per contest.

With its first victory since August, Mississippi State is bringing much-needed positivity to the program. With three touchdowns from rookie quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr., the Bulldogs won the game by covering the spread as 19-point favorites. He ran for 14 yards and completed 14 of 25 passes for 222 yards.

On just six carries, junior running back Johnnie Daniels averaged 15.3 yards per attempt and recorded a season-high 92 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jordan Mosley, a junior wide receiver, caught four catches for 107 yards, breaking the 100-yard mark for the second time this season. Next week, Tennessee will play a big game against Georgia, which might put the Vols in a position to win.
