#9 Missouri Tigers vs #7 Ohio State Buckeyes What to Watch:

On Friday, the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1) take on the ninth-ranked Missouri Tigers (10-2) in the 2023 Cotton Bowl Classic, hoping to overcome some major absences. Since Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal, Ohio State will start an unproven Devin Brown at quarterback. Top receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. may also be benched, though the Buckeyes have not confirmed this. Missouri, which finished the regular season with a three-game winning streak but has lost all four of its previous bowl appearances, might find it easier as a result. Additionally, the Tigers' record versus the Buckeyes is 1-10-1 overall.

With McCord and maybe Harrison out, they might struggle to score, but the Buckeyes should be as formidable on the defensive end as always. Due to the fact that junior defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau is practicing, Ohio State does not anticipate any defensive players to skip Friday's game. In addition to defensive end Jack Sawyer (3.5) and defensive tackle Tyleik Williams (3), both juniors who will play against Missouri, Tuimoloau leads the team with four sacks.

Ohio State ranks top in the country against the pass (147.4 yards allowed), in part because of their ability to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. On seven occasions, opponents have been held below that total.

Another is a secondary that includes Jordan Hancock, who leads the team with two interceptions, including one that he returned 93 yards for a touchdown, and sophomore cornerback Denzel Burke. The Buckeyes allow an average of 11 points per game and have kept opponents to less than that total seven times, ranking third in the nation in total defense (259.9 yards allowed) and second in points allowed.

With an average of 112.5 yards allowed against the run, Ohio State is ranked 24th in the country, but they are first against the pass (147.4 yards), second in points allowed (11.0), and third in total defense (259.9 yards allowed).

Senior Cody Schrader, who is fourth with 1,489 yards and has reached triple digits in five straight games to tie the single-season school record set by Joe Moore in 1969, is one of the nation's most productive running backs, despite the Tigers ranking 54th in the nation in rushing (169.4 yards). After establishing a career-high 217 in Missouri's 48-14 victory over Arkansas in the regular-season finale, Schrader has now had eight 100-yard performances this season and has surpassed the 200-yard barrier in two of his last three games.

Schrader has had at least one touchdown run in nine consecutive games after recording just one in his first three games this season. He needs 116 running yards to surpass the Tigers' single-season record established by Tyler Badie two years ago. He has ran for a touchdown in 13 of his last 15 games since the previous season. Luther Burden III, a sophomore wide receiver, has 1,197 receiving yards, the fourth-most in a season in school history, and is ranked 10th in the US. With a great showing on Friday, Burden may move up to second on that list. He has to gain 64 yards to surpass Jeremy Maclin (2008) and 14 yards to pass Victor Bailey (1992).
