Navy Midshipmen vs #22 Army Black Knights What to Watch:
With the 2024 Commander-in-Chief's Trophy at stake, the No. 22 Army Black Knights (11-1) will play the Navy Midshipmen (8-3) on Saturday to round out their historic season. Before defeating Tulane in the AAC championship game last Friday, Army won all eight of its conference games and started 9-0 for the first season since 1996. Navy will end with its first winning record since going 11-2 in 2019, despite having four consecutive losing seasons. The Commander-in-Chief's Trophy is at stake in this contest for the first time in seven years.
Although the last two meetings in this series have ended in an Over in 2022 and a push in 2023, the Under has hit 47 times in the previous 59 Commander-in-Chief's Trophy encounters.
Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, at 3 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Army vs. Navy odds, the Black Knights are favored by 6.5 points.
Army is coming off an AAC championship and won the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy the previous season. Before their one defeat, against Notre Dame last month, the Black Knights were in the College Football Playoff picture.
They have already tied a school record for season wins, but in the season's most important game, motivation won't be a problem.
Thanks to quarterback Bryson Daily, the Black Knights are averaging a national-high 314.4 rushing yards per game. He is tied with Ashton Jeanty of Boise State for the most rushing touchdowns in college football with 29. In this rivalry, Army has won six of the previous eight encounters, covering the spread in five of those contests.
This season, Navy's new offensive strategy has helped the Midshipmen end a four-game losing streak. Although they still use the triple option, offensive coordinator Drew Cronic, who took over as head coach in his first season, has updated the scheme to include more passing plays. Compared to 17.7 points per game the previous season, the Midshipmen are now averaging 32.3 points per game this year.
In addition to his 1,154 throwing yards and 11 passing touchdowns, junior quarterback Blake Horvath has 895 running yards and 13 touchdowns. He indicated he is healthy for this game but missed the regular-season finale versus East Carolina because of a back ailment. Army has only covered the spread once in its last five games, compared to seven times in its last ten games for Navy.
