#7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs #2 Georgia Bulldogs What to Watch:

One day later than planned because of the attack on Bourbon Street on New Year's Day, the seventh-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play the second-seeded Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the 2025 Sugar Bowl on Thursday. The Fighting Irish (12-1) are 5-0 against the top 25 teams in the Associated Press this season and have won ten straight games. The Bulldogs (11-2) are 4-2 against rated opponents this season after defeating Texas 22-19 in overtime to win the SEC Championship. Georgia will be missing at least nine players, including starting quarterback Carson Beck, who had elbow surgery and has declared for the NFL Draft, while Notre Dame will be without at least eleven players because of injuries or the transfer portal.

At 4 p.m. ET, kickoff will take place from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The Irish are now 1.5-point favorites in the most recent Notre Dame vs. Georgia odds, after Georgia started as the favorite.

The Bulldogs will use running backs Nate Frazier and Trevor Etienne as a one-two punch and quarterback Gunner Stockton, who is ranked seventh in 247Sports' Class of 2022 rankings, as alternatives to Beck. The Bulldogs' top rusher, Frazier, had 129 carries for 634 yards (4.9 average) and eight touchdowns as a freshman. After missing three games because of a rib ailment, he returned to carry six times for 47 yards against Texas in the SEC Championship Game.

In a Nov. 23 victory over Massachusetts, he rushed 21 times for 136 yards (6.5 average) and three touchdowns.

As a junior, Etienne ran 111 times for 9 touchdowns and 571 yards (5.1 average). Additionally, he hauled in 28 catches for 168 yards (6.0 average), including a 14-yard long. He carried 16 times for 94 yards (5.9 average) and two scores in the SEC title game victory over Texas. On October 19, he rushed 19 times for 87 yards (4.6 average) and three touchdowns in a 30–15 victory over the Longhorns.

Riley Leonard, a quarterback, leads the Fighting Irish. With six interceptions and a rating of 139.6, he has completed 217 of 325 passes (66.8%) for 2,293 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. He completed 23 of 32 passes (71.9%) for 201 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the first-round victory over Indiana, 27–17. In addition, he gained 30 yards and one touchdown on 11 different carriers. On October 12, he ran six times for 31 yards and one touchdown and completed 16 of 22 passes (72.7%) for 229 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-7 victory over Stanford.

With 142 carries for 1,057 yards (7.4 average) and 16 touchdowns, including a high of 98 yards, Jeremiyah Love has spearheaded the ground game this season. In the first-round victory over Indiana, he rushed eight times for 108 yards (13.5 average) and one touchdown. In three of Notre Dame's last four games, he has accumulated 100 yards or more.
