#7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs #6 Penn State Nittany Lions What to Watch:

On Thursday night, the No. 6 seed Penn State Nittany Lions will play the No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the 2025 Orange Bowl, with the winner going to the national championship game, in an attempt to continue their strong start to the College Football Playoffs. Penn State has easily defeated Boise State and SMU, winning both games by a final score of 69–24. In addition to its 10-game winning run at the end of the regular season, Notre Dame has also defeated Georgia and Indiana in the CFP. The Sugar Bowl was moved from New Year's Day to January 2, which means the Fighting Irish have two less days to get ready for this match.

Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami at 7:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Penn State vs. Notre Dame odds, Notre Dame is favored by one point.

In the College Football Playoffs, Penn State has trounced its first two opponents, defeating Boise State and SMU to reach the semifinals. In the victory versus the Broncos, junior quarterback Drew Allar had three touchdowns despite finishing with just 171 passing yards. The Nittany Lions' running offense, which amassed 216 yards and a touchdown, was their mainstay.

Including a close defeat to Ohio State in November, their defense has held seven of their previous nine opponents to 20 points or less.

Their two losses during the regular season were against teams ranked in the top five, and they have covered the spread in five of their last seven games. Penn State has an advantage in that category because Notre Dame is playing on less rest following the one-day postponement of the Sugar Bowl.

After a surprise setback to Northern Illinois in September, Notre Dame rattled off a 12-game winning streak, making them perhaps the most consistently dominant team in college football. The Fighting Irish have covered the spread in ten straight games, which is more significant for gamblers.

With a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown to start the second half, Jayden Harrison gave them a tremendous moment as they defeated No. 2 seed Georgia 23–10 in the quarterfinals.

Riley Leonard, a versatile veteran quarterback, rushed for 80 yards against Georgia after amassing over 200 throwing yards against Indiana. On the defensive end of the ball, Penn State will come up against the second-best passing defense this season. In seven consecutive games against teams with top-25 scoring defenses, the Nittany Lions have failed to cover the spread.
