#5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs USC Trojans What to Watch:

On Saturday on CBS and Paramount+, the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-1) go to the USC Trojans (6-5, 4-5) in an attempt to secure their spot in the College Football Playoffs. Despite facing their most formidable opponent since Texas A&M in Week 1, the Fighting Irish are poised to earn a CFP spot after winning nine straight games. With UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava at the center, USC has improved over the past two games despite having a difficult first season in the Big Ten. Marcus Freeman, the head coach of Notre Dame, stated that starting defensive end Howard Cross III (ankle) is doubtful and ruled out linebackers Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa and Bodie Kahoun for this game.

At 3:30 p.m. ET, United Airlines Field at the LA Memorial Coliseum will kick off. According to the most recent Notre Dame vs. USC odds, the Fighting Irish are 7 points ahead.

The Trojans enter Saturday's game with a 4-1 home record and above.500, despite having a poor start to their inaugural Big Ten season. In addition, they have covered in three of their previous four games, including two that were played in Southern California, and are 7-4-0 ATS this season.

In consecutive low-scoring victories, Maiava has been a bright spot for USC, throwing for four touchdowns in total. He passed for 259 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in USC's most recent home victory over Nebraska, which ended with a score of 28–20.

Although the Fighting Irish will not have cornerback Benjamin Morrison (hip) for the remainder of the season, Maiava will face a strong Notre Dame passing defense.

In addition to having 10 victories this season, Notre Dame is 9-1-0 against the spread in 2024 and has an average winning margin of 32.6 points. Additionally, the Fighting Irish just defeated Army 49–14, erasing a 14-point deficit to inflict them their first defeat of the year.

After averaging 11.4 yards per pass and a 76.9% completion rate versus Army, all eyes will be on quarterback Riley Leonard to keep up his good work. He is going to take on a USC passing defense that is giving up 235.6 yards in the air per game, and he has a 126.3 passer rating in away games this season.
