The 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship game between the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes (13-2) and No. 7 Notre Dame (14-1) is scheduled for Monday, with only two teams remaining in the original 12-team field. The defensive end Jack Sawyer's late 83-yard fumble return for a score helped Ohio State defeat Texas 28-14 in the semifinals after they easily defeated Tennessee and Oregon in the CFP bracket. Notre Dame has advanced to the national championship game by defeating Penn State, Georgia, and Indiana with a combination of timely offensive plays and a strong defense. 

Both defensive lineman Rylie Mills (knee) and Notre Dame starting offensive tackle Anthonie Knapp (ankle) have been ruled out. Beaux Collins, a Notre Dame receiver, is likely to have a calf injury.

At 7:30 p.m. ET, kickoff will take place from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The most recent Ohio State vs. Notre Dame odds see the Buckeyes as 8.5-point favorites.

There were many concerns regarding Ohio State's viability as a title contender and head coach Ryan Day's future after the team's shocking defeat to Michigan in the regular season finale. In the first two games, Jeremiah Smith and quarterback Will Howard were an invincible tandem.

Sawyer's heroics were made possible by the Buckeyes' tenacity on the goal line as Texas attempted to equalize the score late. On the following drive, an interception by Caleb Downs clinched the victory for OSU. The Buckeyes have the opportunity to easily defeat the Irish on their path to a championship because they have covered and won by double digits in each of their three postseason games.

Since Northern Illinois shocked the Irish in Week 2, oddsmakers and bettors have generally undervalued Notre Dame.

Since then, the Irish have won 13 games in a row, going 11-1-1 ATS with just two victories coming in one-possession contests. Notre Dame possesses a top-tier defense, just like the Buckeyes. The Irish have excelled in the CFP, allowing an average of 17 points per game against three skilled offenses, and they rank second nationally with just 14.3 points per game conceded.

The Irish's rushing offense, which was ranked 14th in the country, is their main offensive strength. At an average of 7.1 yards per carry, running back Jeremiyah Love (159-1121-17) was among the country's most productive backs. The 11-day break between games should help him recover from the knee issue he's been dealing with. This season, running back Jadarian Price was a major contributor on the ground with 733 yards, and quarterback Riley Leonard completed 66.4% of his throws and was the team's second-leading rusher with 866 yards.
