#5 Ole Miss Rebels vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons What to Watch:
On Saturday night, the No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels (2-0) will travel for the first time this season to play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (1-1). Ole Miss recently defeated Furman and Middle Tennessee in decisive fashion, outscoring both teams 128-3 overall. Wake Forest had gotten out to a 2-0 start of its own, but in the fourth quarter of a 31-30 loss to Virginia, it gave up 14 straight points. The Rebels and Demon Deacons are meeting for the first time since 2008.
On Saturday, Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Last week, Wake Forest had the lead for the majority of their game against Virginia, but the Cavaliers won because of several poor plays in the closing minutes. Hank Bachmeier, a transfer quarterback, started last week after coming on as a substitute in the first game. One of the keys to pulling off an upset is avoiding turnovers, and he has thrown for four touchdowns this season without being intercepted.
The Demon Deacons have won all of their prior encounters with SEC schools, and Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson is 4-0 versus them during his tenure.
Not only is Ole Miss traveling for the first time this season, but it is also playing a team from a major conference for the first time. Wake Forest is 9-3 in its previous 12 September games and 14-6 in its last 20 home games.
Since it is Ole Miss's only non-conference game versus a strong conference opponent, the institution has marked this game on their calendar. The Rebels have dominated both Furman and Middle Tennessee in their opening two games, demonstrating their remarkable play.
When quarterback Jaxson Dart set an SEC record against Middle Tennessee by completing his first 24 throws, he came two completions short of an NCAA record, solidifying his status as an early Heisman Trophy contender.
17 of the Rebels' first 27 drives this season have resulted in touchdowns, and they have scored on 20 of those drives. Neither Furman nor Middle Tennessee were able to hit the 50-yard rushing mark, demonstrating how good their defense has been. Ole Miss has covered the spread in five of its last six games against ACC opponents and is 12-1 in its previous 13 September games.
