Purdue Boilermakers vs Michigan State Spartans What to Watch:
The Michigan State Spartans' Big Ten game against the Purdue Boilermakers at Spartan Stadium is the main event on Friday's college football schedule. The Boilermakers are 1-9 overall and 0-7 in Big Ten games, while the Spartans are 4-6 overall and 2-5 in conference action. Michigan State will try to end a three-game losing streak after suffering a 38-16 away loss to Illinois. To be eligible to bowl, the Spartans must win out. After losing to Penn State 49-10 in their most recent game, Purdue is hoping to end a nine-game losing streak. This season, the Boilermakers have lost all of their games against FBS opponents. This season, Michigan State is 4-6 against the spread and Purdue is 2-8.
In this late-season game, the Spartans have much more at stake. They can make it to the bowl game in head coach Jonathan Smith's first season by defeating Purdue and Rutgers in their season finale. The additional bowl game drills might be invaluable for a school rebuilding with a young quarterback.
Aidan Chiles, a sophomore, is incredibly gifted and possesses the skill set necessary to be a top-tier Big Ten quarterback. Chiles, who came after Smith from Oregon State, just had his finest Spartans game. Chiles ran for 40 yards on 12 carries and threw for 256 yards and two scores against a formidable Illinois defense.
When playing Michigan State, the Boilermakers have the opportunity to act as spoilers. Purdue would remove the Spartans from postseason contention with a victory on Friday night. Additionally, a triumph in East Lansing would give Purdue new hope going into the summer.
Purdue hasn't had a great season, but tight end Max Klare and running back Devin Mockobee have been two bright spots. On 115 carries, Mockobee has run for 652 yards and three touchdowns. Klare has 39 receptions for 566 yards and three touchdowns going into Friday.
