Purdue Boilermakers vs #2 Ohio State Buckeyes What to Watch:
When the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (7-1) play the Purdue Boilermakers (1-7) on Saturday, they'll be hoping for a relaxing afternoon. Ohio State is now one game behind Oregon and Indiana at the top of the Big Ten rankings after defeating then-No. 3 Penn State 20–13. Since defeating Indiana State in the season opener, Purdue has dropped seven straight games, most recently to Northwestern in OT. When these teams faced off last season, the Buckeyes easily won 41-7 on the road. This season, Ohio State is 4-4 ATS while Purdue is 2-6 against the spread. Zen Michalski, an offensive tackle, is not playing for Ohio State.
Ohio Stadium will kick off on Saturday at 12:00 ET. The most recent Ohio State vs. Purdue odds show that Ohio State is currently favored by 37.5 points after beginning at -34.5.
Last week, Ohio State did not make the same error that cost them a chance to capture a landmark victory at then-No. 3 Oregon in mid-October. With a road victory over then-No. 3 Penn State, the Buckeyes solidified their position as a contender for the national championship. They are averaging 37.8 points per game this season and have already won four games by more than 30 points.
Two running backs have accumulated more than 500 yards this season, and senior quarterback Will Howard has 1,977 throwing yards and 19 touchdowns.
The Buckeyes have some of the top skill players in the country, featuring wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka. Ohio State has won eight straight home games against Purdue, and it has covered the spread in seven of its last 10 Saturday home games.
Purdue is on a seven-game losing streak and has not beat a power-conference opponent this season, but it has put forth several competitive efforts in recent weeks. The Boilermakers took then-No. 23 Illinois to overtime last month as 22.5-point underdogs, as freshman quarterback Ryan Browne had 297 passing yards and three touchdowns. They played another overtime game last week, falling to Northwestern by six points at home.
Browne completed all three of his attempts, and senior quarterback Hudson Card completed 21 of 37 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown. Ohio State is in a disappointing position with their decisive victory last week, and the Boilermakers have only lost by more than 35 points once since Week 2. Purdue might not get the Buckeyes' whole attention because they have a matchup versus Indiana in two weeks.
