SMU Mustangs vs #22 Louisville Cardinals What to Watch:
The SMU Mustangs (4-1) will travel to play the No. 22 Louisville Cardinals (3-1) on Saturday afternoon in an attempt to build on their thrilling victory against Florida State. After defeating TCU by 66 points two weeks ago and defeating Florida State 42-16, SMU has become one of the nation's most potent offensive teams. Last week, Louisville suffered its first defeat of the season, losing 31–24 to Notre Dame, which was ranked No. 16 at the time. These schools will meet for the first time in forty years.
L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium will kick off on Saturday at 12:00 ET. According to the most recent Louisville vs. SMU odds, Louisville is favored by 6.5 points.
Despite losing for the first time this season, Louisville defeated Notre Dame 395-280. The Cardinals were ultimately unable to overcome their mistakes, as they committed three turnovers, gave up three sacks, and were flagged six times. The Cardinals have benefited greatly from Texas Tech transfer quarterback Tyler Shough, who has completed 65% of his throws for 1,114 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Ja'Corey Brooks, a transfer from Alabama, has caught 22 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns, including two last week. Louisville is a challenging squad for oddsmakers to price because of all those new players, including freshman running back Isaac Brown, who has carried for 245 yards and a touchdown.
The Cardinals are 5-1 in their past six conference games and have won 14 of their last 15 home games.
SMU has finished two of its best games of the season, easily defeating Florida State and TCU. The Mustangs ran for 238 yards and three touchdowns in their victory over the Horned Frogs, scoring 66 points. Senior running back Brashard Smith recorded 129 rushing yards and a touchdown in last week's 42-16 victory over Florida State, allowing them to build on that performance.
With almost 200 yards per game on the ground and in the air, the Mustangs are averaging 42.2 points and 419.4 yards per game. They tied for the FBS lead with 14 takeaways after five games, including three interceptions versus Florida State. They have won 13 of their last 15 games overall and are on a six-game winning streak on the road.
