South Florida Bulls vs #4 Alabama Crimson Tide What to Watch:
When the two teams play one other for the second consecutive year on Saturday, the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0) will be careful not to lose to the South Florida Bulls (1-0). Last year, Alabama narrowly won 17-3, relying on a late score to win the game. With a 63-0 victory over Western Kentucky, the Crimson Tide began a new era under head coach Kalen DeBoer and moved up one spot in the AP Poll this week. USF defeated Bethune-Cookman 48-3 in its first game, covering the spread as a 43.5-point favorite.
Bryant-Denny Stadium will kick off on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. Alabama has a 31-point advantage.
Former head coach Nick Saban benched Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe for the team's game against South Florida last year after the team's loss to Texas the week before, but that won't happen this year. After that game last year, Milroe regained his starting position and is now regarded as one of the nation's best quarterbacks. In a 63-0 victory over Western Kentucky last week, the Heisman Trophy contender completed 7 of 9 passes for 200 yards, throwing for three touchdowns and running for two more.
In his debut, sophomore running back Justice Haynes ran for 102 yards and a touchdown, while rookie wide receiver Ryan Williams grabbed touchdown passes of 84 and 55 yards.
The Crimson Tide have won 19 of their last 20 games in September and have covered the spread in nine of their previous 12 games. In contrast, South Florida's record in its last 20 road games is just 2-18.
After playing Alabama close the whole game the previous season, South Florida will go into this game with confidence. The Bulls crushed Bethune-Cookman in a 48-3 home final last week after reviving their offense. Senior wide receiver Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen caught five catches for 73 yards, while junior quarterback Byrum Brown completed 13 of 20 throws for 152 yards.
Brown added 74 rushing yards and another touchdown, and senior running back Kelley Joiner ran 14 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns. The Bulls are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games in Week 2, and they have covered the spread in five of their last seven games going back to the previous season. In its last six Week 2 games, Alabama has only once covered the spread.
