South Florida Bulls vs Florida Atlantic Owls What to Watch:
As the Florida Atlantic Owls (2-5, 0-3) play the South Florida Bulls (3-4, 1-2) in an AAC matchup on Friday, familiar rivals square off in Week 10. Both teams are coming off bye weeks; in Week 8, the Owls lost to UTSA 38-24, while the Bulls defeated last-place UAB 35-25. Florida Atlantic had dropped back-to-back games going into Friday, while USF's victory snapped a three-game losing streak.
At 7:30 p.m. ET, the game will kick off from FAU Stadium. The Bulls are now 2.5-point favorites in the most recent FAU vs. USF odds, having opened at -4.5.
Byrum Brown, who has been sidelined since September 28 due to a leg injury, is the Bulls' biggest doubt going into Friday's game. Backup quarterback Bryce Archie has made two starts but has struggled with accuracy, which has raised some concerns. But against a UAB defense that doesn't give up much in the passing game, Archie performed better. In that game, running back Kelley Joiner ran for 94 yards and scored two touchdowns. Joiner will take on an FAU rush defense that is giving up an average of 200.7 yards on the ground.
This season, the Bulls' defense has performed admirably against the run, giving up only 137.3 yards per contest. This season, it has also faced formidable quarterbacks in Jalen Milroe of Alabama and Cam Ward of Miami. In an attempt to cover the spread, South Florida's defense can hold FAU at bay because their attack isn't as strong as those two programs'.
Cam Fancher, the quarterback for the Owls, only completed 47.4% of his passes against the UTSA Roadrunners in Week 8, and the team is hoping for a better showing.
Against a Bulls passing defense that is in the bottom of the AAC with an average of 291.3 yards per game, he will have an opportunity to get better on Friday. With an average of 153.1 yards per game, Fancher has also had success adding to the running game.
Florida Atlantic has won the last two matches with South Florida, giving them a lead in the all-time series. This includes the Owls' 56-14 victory in Tampa last season.
