South Florida Bulls vs San Jose State Spartans What to Watch:

The South Florida Bulls and San Jose State Spartans will square off in the 2024 Hawaii Bowl on Tuesday. USF (6-6) is making its second consecutive bowl appearance under former Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh, despite winning four games overall in the three seasons before his arrival. San Jose State, meanwhile, is 7-5 and will be going to the bowl for the fourth time in five years, building on Brent Brennan's success during Ken Niumatalolo's first season as head coach. Golesh has not ruled out USF quarterback Byrum Brown for this game, despite the fact that he has been sidelined since late September because of a leg ailment. Bryce Archie will stay under center if Brown is unable to go.

Tuesday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex in Honolulu, kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. According to the most recent USF vs. San Jose State odds, San Jose State is favored by 1.5 points.

Despite Brown's injury and a challenging non-conference schedule that started with a tune-up against Bethune-Cookman and included road trips to Alabama and Southern Miss before ending with Miami (FL) at Raymond James Stadium, the Bulls were able to qualify for the bowl game. The Bulls were put to the test in defeats to the two dominant teams, and USF split those two games. Despite this, they managed to grind out a 4-4 record in the competitive AAC.

With an average of 50 points and 565 yards during the last three weeks of the season, Golesh's attack was in full swing. In late-season victories over Tulsa and Charlotte, veteran running back Kelley Joiner Jr. contributed significantly to that victory by rushing for 271 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 carries. In three of its last five games, South Florida covered the spread, and in five of the last six USF games, the over hit.

During his 16 seasons as head coach at Navy, Niumatalolo used the triple-option to help guide the Midshipmen to 11 bowl games. This was the last time we saw him in charge of a collegiate football program. At San Jose State, however, Niumatalolo's offense is completely different, as the Spartans average 325.3 yards per game.

But after collecting 104 passes for 1,482 yards and 16 touchdowns, star wide receiver Nick Nash decided to opt out and declare for the NFL Draft, so the Spartans will be without him. Justin Lockhart, who caught 52 receptions for 975 yards and five scores during the regular season, is still a reliable option for San Jose State, though.
