Syracuse Orange vs #19 Pittsburgh Panthers What to Watch:

Since their inception, the Pittsburgh Panthers and Syracuse Orange have had comparable collegiate football histories. Since joining the Big East jointly in 1991 and switching to the ACC together in 2013, they have played against each other annually since 1955 due to their same geographic locations and conference affiliation. Last year, Syracuse ended a five-game losing streak against the Panthers at Yankee Stadium with a 28–13 victory against Pittsburgh. Syracuse is 5-1 and 2-1 in conference play going into Thursday's game, while Pitt is 6-0 and 2-0 in the ACC, good for 19th place in the nation.

Acrisure Stadium will kick underway at 7:30 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Syracuse vs. Pittsburgh odds, the Panthers are a 5.5-point favorite.

As quarterback Kyle McCord has thrown the ball about, the Orange have three receivers who are among the top seven in the ACC for receiving yards. Syracuse's offense has flourished, averaging 32.2 points per game, its highest scoring season since 2018, thanks to his refusal to force the ball to a single pass-catcher. The only ACC teammate trio with over 400 receiving yards this season is Jackson Meeks (459 yards), Trebor Pena (458 yards), and Oronde Gadsden II (432 yards). They have all recorded at least 32 receptions.

This season, Syracuse has already defeated rated opponents twice. The Orange upset No. 25 UNLV, 44-41, in overtime on the road on October 4 and defeated No. 23 Georgia Tech, 31-28, at home on September 7.

Syracuse's only defeat came late in a 26–24 game against Stanford on a field goal. With an average of 360 passing yards per game and sixth in the country in passing yards (2,160), McCord, a transfer from Ohio State, has been a significant boost to Syracuse. Check out SportsLine's backers.

The Panthers just finished with their worst season in Pat Narduzzi's ten years as head coach, going 3-9 and suffering their first defeat at the institution. However, Pittsburgh's 6-0 start this week propelled them to No. 19, their highest position of the season, and swiftly demonstrated that last year's subpar campaign was an anomaly.

This year's success has been largely attributed to the Panthers' strong run defense, which gives up only 3.0 yards per rush, good for ninth place in college football. Four different players, including defensive tackle Nate Matlack, one of their top players obtained from Kansas State via the transfer portal, have at least three sacks this season, and they are giving up the 18th-fewest yards per play (4.6).
