TCU Horned Frogs vs Stanford Cardinal What to Watch:
When the TCU Horned Frogs play the Stanford Cardinals on Friday night, they will begin the season on the road. After appearing in the national championship game the year before, TCU is coming off a 5-7 season and missing out on the postseason. Despite starting a new era in the ACC, Stanford has finished 3-9 in each of its previous three Pac-12 seasons. After losing all seven of their home games the previous season, the Cardinals are also aiming for their first home win since 2022.
Following five consecutive seasons with four or fewer victories, Stanford is hoping for a resurgence under second-year head coach Troy Taylor.
All three of the quarterbacks who have been vying for the starting position this fall may see action in this game. Ashton Daniels might have an advantage in the contest because he was a first-year starter last season and threw for 2,247 yards and 11 touchdowns.
In addition, Daniels ran for 292 yards, second only to teammate Justin Lamson as the Pac-12 quarterback with the most. Taylor will have a lot of options on Friday because freshman Elijah Brown is also competing for playing time. Last season, TCU had its third losing season in the previous five years, going 1-4 away from home.
After winning the national championship in the 2022 season, TCU fell below.500 last year, although there were still some encouraging results.
The Horned Frogs had the second-highest passing yardage average in the Big 12 at 312.2 yards per game. Josh Hoover, the quarterback who started the season's last six games, completed 62.1% of his passes for 2,206 yards and 15 touchdowns.
With Hoover as the anticipated starter going into the season, the Horned Frogs have a tried-and-true choice to spearhead their offense. Over the last five years, Stanford's home record versus Power Five teams has been 7-21. The quarterback position is the most prominent of the Cardinals' question marks going into the season.
