#6 Tennessee Volunteers vs #15 Oklahoma Sooners What to Watch:
In their SEC debut on Saturday night, No. 15 Oklahoma (3-0) will attempt to slow down No. 6 Tennessee (3-0). Two weeks ago, the Sooners slipped by Houston and defeated Temple and Tulane in decisive fashion. They are finishing up a four-game homestand that begins their inaugural season in the SEC. In its shutout victory over Kent State last week, Tennessee, led by former OU quarterback and assistant coach Josh Heupel, broke a modern-era school record with 71 points, blowing out each of its first three opponents.
At 7:30 p.m. ET, the game will kick off from Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. As of right now, Tennessee is a 6.5-point favorite against Oklahoma.
The Sooners will have a boisterous crowd for this game, and Oklahoma hasn't been a touchdown underdog at home since 1998. Jackson Arnold, a sophomore quarterback, has rushed for a team-high 159 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 484 yards and seven touchdowns. He has the support of a top-tier defense that has caused 10 turnovers, allowed 11.3 points per game, and has not given up a rushing touchdown.
After battling persistent injuries since fall camp, wide receiver Nic Anderson is anticipated to make his comeback on Saturday. Anderson caught 31 catches for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns the previous season.
Under coach Brent Venables, who is in his third season in Norman, Oklahoma is 9-6 against the spread in 15 home games. This is Tennessee's first real travel game of the season, and the Sooners have never been home underdogs under Venables.
This season, Tennessee is off to a flawless start, covering the spread with ease in each of its three decisive victories. Dylan Sampson, the running back, averages 119 rushing yards per game and scores nine touchdowns, helping the Vols top the country in scoring at 61.0 points per game. Nico Iamaleava, a redshirt freshman quarterback, has passed for 698 yards and six touchdowns despite being permitted to take a break in the second half of each of the three games.
The Vols have probably played just as well defensively, limiting opponents to 160.7 yards and 4.3 points per contest. They are up against an offensive line from Oklahoma that hasn't created many running lanes and has already given up 11 sacks. In addition, the Sooners have a lot more injury problems than a comparatively healthy Tennessee squad.
