#5 Texas Longhorns vs #25 Vanderbilt Commodores What to Watch:
On Saturday afternoon, the No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores (5-2) will visit the No. 5 Texas Longhorns (6-1) in an attempt to continue their incredible three-game winning streak. After defeating Kentucky and Ball State, Vanderbilt began their winning run by defeating then-No. 1 Alabama. Prior to losing to then-No. 5 Georgia in a 30–15 final, Texas was the nation's top-ranked team. The Longhorns and Commodores are among the top five SEC teams with one conference defeat, trailing only Texas A&M and LSU. Isaiah Bond, Texas' premier wide receiver, will be sidelined due to an ankle injury.
FirstBank Stadium will kick off on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. ET. According to the most recent Vanderbilt vs. Texas odds, Texas is favored by 17.5 points after opening at -21.5.
Even though Vanderbilt isn't playing at its best right now, their victory over Ball State was sufficient to get them in the top 25 for the first time since the 2013 season's last poll. Diego Pavia, the quarterback, ran for 82 yards and another touchdown and threw for 275 yards and a touchdown. As double-digit underdogs, he has guided Vanderbilt to three upset victories, including two in Nashville.
Pavia has completed 1,391 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just one interception on 66.2% of his attempts. Eli Stowers, another transfer from New Mexico State, has 33 receptions for 463 yards and two touchdowns, while he has 470 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. In five consecutive games as underdogs, the Commodores have covered the spread.
The Texas Longhorns are in a must-win situation on Saturday after falling down 23-0 in their loss to Georgia last week.
They are a serious threat to Vanderbilt, and they managed to mount a comeback against the Bulldogs in the second half that ultimately failed. Texas, led by linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., cornerback Jahdae Barron, and edge rusher Barryn Sorrell, leads the country in both scoring defense and total defense.
The Longhorns, led by junior quarterback Quinn Ewers, are also a top offensive team. Quintrevion Wisner, a sophomore running back, has 330 rushing yards and two touchdowns this season, while he has 1,101 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. Texas has won eight of its previous 11 games on the road and has covered the spread in eight of those games.
