Tulane Green Wave vs Florida Gators What to Watch:
On Friday afternoon, the Florida Gators take on the Tulane Green Wave in the 2024 Gasparilla Bowl, hoping to finish above.500. In order to qualify for the bowl, Florida (6-6) defeated archrival Florida State 31-11 on November 30 and won its final three regular season games. On December 6, Tulane (9-4) lost to Army 35-14 in the AAC Championship Game. In 2024, the Green Wave are 9-4 ATS and the Gators are 8-4 against the spread.
At 3:30 p.m. ET, kickoff will take place from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The most recent Florida vs. Tulane odds see the Gators as 10-point favorites.
After a 3-6 start, the Gators defeated Florida State to earn bowl eligibility after defeating LSU and Ole Miss. True freshman quarterback D.J. Lagway led Billy Napier's team after returning senior Graham Mertz suffered a knee injury halfway through the season. The squad relied on a potent rushing attack to win, while Lagway passed for five touchdowns versus two interceptions in the team's final three games.
Despite not having more than 603 yards rushing this season, running backs Jadan Baugh, Montrell Johnson Jr., and Ja'Kobi Jackson combined for 302 carries. In 2024, the three ran for almost 1,650 yards and 20 total touchdowns.
Before falling to Army in the conference title game and Memphis in the regular season finale, Tulane Green Wave had won eight straight games this season. Tulane will be led by Ty Thompson, a former 5-star recruit (at Oregon), as starting quarterback Darian Mensah is leaving for Duke via the transfer portal. Two of Thompson's 11 passes this season have resulted in touchdowns. After this game, he plans to look into additional collegiate options.
Luckily for Tulane, their two top offensive players, Mario Williams, a wide receiver, and Makhi Hughes, a running back, plan to play on Friday. For the second straight season, Hughes was selected to the first team all-AAC after rushing for 1,372 yards and 15 touchdowns. In his first season following his transfer from USC, Williams caught 54 passes for 940 yards and five touchdowns. For Tulane to cover the wide spread, both will probably need to have strong games.
