Tulsa Golden Hurricane vs Oklahoma State Cowboys What to Watch:
In Saturday's SEC Championship Game, the No. 2 LSU Tigers take on their fifth opponent in the Top 10 this season. Additionally, the Georgia Bulldogs, rated fourth, may be the most formidable opponent the SEC West champs face.
Since losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks on October 12, Kirby Smart's team has dominated every opponent it has faced, and they have the best defense in the SEC. LSU's offense, which has scored at least 50 points over the last three games, is among the best in the FBS.
Ed Orgeron's Tigers will guarantee a spot in the College Football Playoffs if they win when they depart Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The same is true of the Bulldogs, but if that happens, the Tigers might join them in the final four.
One of the most exciting games of championship weekend is the duel between Georgia's defense and LSU's offense.
The Tigers had the second-best FBS averages of 48.7 points, 390.0 passing yards, and 560.4 total yards per game. Georgia is ranked fourth in terms of overall yards given up per game and second in terms of points and rushing yards allowed per game.
The Bulldogs limited the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to seven scores and 139 total yards one week ago. That continues the pattern they established after tripping at home in the middle of October. The SEC East champions recorded shutouts over Missouri and Kentucky but gave up 51 points in their remaining six games.
LSU scored 269 points during that time, including 46 against Alabama and at least 50 points each against Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. During the season, Ole Miss (26.5 points per game) and Texas A&M (22.7 points per game) both had stout defenses, while Alabama gave up 18.8 points per game.
That would imply that LSU uses 1,000-yard wide outs Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase, as well as Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow, to overcome Georgia's defense. Auburn once kept LSU to less than 30, yet they still managed to amass 508 total yards.
Between October 12 and November 23, Georgia's offense failed to score more than 30 points, and it only did so twice in SEC play, against Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Burrow has had six consecutive passing performances of 300 yards or more, whereas Jake Fromm has not done so in 2019.
The Georgia junior will probably find it difficult to keep up with his LSU counterpart with receiver Lawrence Cager out and four defensive backs roaming the secondary with multiple interceptions.
