UL Monroe Warhawks vs #1 Texas Longhorns What to Watch:
At Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the top-ranked Texas Longhorns will play the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. UL Monroe is 2-0 overall and finished 2-10 last season, while Texas is 3-0 overall and 2-0 at home. Quinn Ewers is out with an injury to his abdominal muscle, so Arch Manning, a redshirt freshman, will start for the first time. Since 2008, Texas has not held the top spot in the AP Poll until now.
According to the most recent Texas vs. UL Monroe odds, the Longhorns are now favored by 43.5 points after starting at -48.
The Longhorns have won and covered with ease in each of their first three games, making them maybe the most remarkable team in the country. Following the Bulldogs' scare at Kentucky this week, they jumped ahead of Georgia in the AP Poll. The Longhorns have one of the best backup quarterbacks in the country in Manning, who is ready to go when the star quarterback is out.
Arch Manning, the third generation of the renowned quarterback family, is the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning, and the son of Cooper Manning. He completed 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns last week, adding 53 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He was outstanding in Ewers' place.
With two victories and two simple covers, UL Monroe is likewise off to a quick start. As 4.5-point favorites, the Warhawks defeated Jackson State 30–13 in their first game. Then, despite being 12-point underdogs, they defeated UAB 32-6 in Week 2. Head coach Bryant Vincent, who served as UAB's interim coach in 2022 but was eventually passed over for the full-time position in favor of Trent Dilfer, who lost that game, must have been very happy with the victory.
Transfer from Oklahoma This season, UL Monroe's quarterback, General Booty, is 19-of-30 for 191 yards and a score.
James Jones and Ahmad Hardy have combined for about 300 yards on the ground as running backs, and the Warhawks would have a decent chance of staying under the total with a potent running assault.
